I won’t bore you with my early childhood it was a lot like an episode of Madmen. Fast forward now to 1982, when I graduated from university, married a beautiful girl and headed west. We gave birth to a son. Then another son. Still, something was missing in my life. Yes we got the dog but still, there was a longing.
In 1984, I opened up an Income Tax Act for the first time. The subtle innocence of those fragile pages, the smoothness of the long spine…it was more than I could resist. I knew right from the start that I must learn the ways of these strange people they called the “tax specialists”.
So I joined the tax group of the Calgary office of KPMG, signed up for the CICA in-depth tax course, quit KPMG, moved back home, joined Fuller Landau, quit again, and started my own tax consulting firm in 1994.
Since then, I have worked with accountants, lawyers and business people from across Canada and around the world in corporate, personal and estate tax planning, as well as international taxation. I have successfully represented taxpayers at all levels of the appeals process, including the Tax Court of Canada.
